Gold Hands offers tile installation in Miami Beach, FL: floors, shower walls and pans, backsplashes and accent walls in porcelain, ceramic or natural stone, plus regrouting and repair of cracked or loose tiles. Every job is priced per project. Send photos and rough measurements by phone or WhatsApp and we return a free estimate, with no visit needed to get a number.

Tile work in Miami Beach is often a repair before it is a project. A few tiles pop loose near a sliding door, grout cracks along a hallway, or a backsplash tile breaks when an outlet is replaced. Sometimes matching tile is still available; often it is not, and the conversation turns to replacing a defined area cleanly, ending at a doorway or a natural break, instead of patching with a tile that does not match.

Send us what you have before anyone comes out. A text or WhatsApp to (786) 788-8714 with photos of the damaged spot, a wider view of the room, and a picture of any spare tile left in the garage helps us price it honestly. Tell us whether the area gets wet and whether the floor sounds hollow when you tap it. We reply in Spanish or English, your choice.

Installing tile in a tower unit: what the building expects

Miami Beach holds one of the largest concentrations of 1920s-to-1940s Art Deco and Mediterranean low-rise buildings in the country, mid-century MiMo blocks in North Beach and oceanfront towers along Collins Avenue.

In Miami Beach towers we start by asking for the management office's renovation packet. It usually spells out what paperwork is needed, when contractors can work, how the elevator gets booked, and where debris has to leave the building. Having that in hand lets us build a schedule that does not stall halfway through because a form was missing or a loading dock slot was already taken.

Inside the unit, protecting the common areas matters as much as the tile itself: floor runners from the elevator to the door, covered hallway walls, and dust control so a neighbor has no reason to complain to the board. Waterproofing in tower bathrooms gets extra attention, since a shower leak in a high-rise reaches the unit below. We water-test new shower pans before any tile goes on them.

Retiling a mid-century house the right way

Mid-century homes in Miami Beach rarely have perfectly square rooms. Walls lean, floors slope slightly toward old drains, and doorways sit at different heights. Good tile layout works with that: we find the room's visual center, split the cuts so neither side ends in a thin sliver, and adjust the floor so thresholds still meet the next room cleanly instead of leaving a lip to trip over.

Many older homes still have cast-iron or galvanized drain and supply lines, and a shower retile exposes them. If we open a wall and find corroded pipe, we stop and show you photos before anything is covered. Replacing those lines is plumbing work that needs a permit, so it is priced and handled separately from the tile, and you decide how to proceed.

From photos to finished tile

  1. Free estimate by phone or WhatsApp: send photos, rough dimensions and, if you have picked one, the tile. We price the project as a whole and point out anything in the photos that needs a closer look.
  2. Agreement in writing: the scope, materials, who buys the tile, the layout direction, the schedule and how surprises behind the old tile will be handled are all written down before we start.
  3. Permits where required: ordinary retiling does not move plumbing. If yours turns into relocating plumbing or structural work, we tell you before quoting, and that part goes through our general contractor partner and the City of Miami Beach building department.
  4. Tile work: removal, prep, leveling and waterproofing come first, then setting from a center line so the cuts are balanced. We let materials cure properly between stages instead of rushing to grout.
  5. Final check and report: we walk the job with you, tap-test floors for hollow spots, confirm drains and thresholds, clean up, and send a short photo report of the finished work.

Timing: what makes tile work short or long

What we find under the old tile also matters. A sound slab or dry backer board lets us move straight to new tile. A cracked slab, soft drywall, a rotted subfloor or a leaking valve adds steps, and we stop to show you before continuing. In condos, association approval and elevator booking can set the start date, so it helps to begin that paperwork early.

Tile Installation in Miami Beach — questions we get asked

Does my condo association need to approve tile work?

Many associations require approval before any flooring or bathroom work, along with a certificate of insurance, set working hours and a reserved service elevator. Many also require sound-rated underlayment under new hard floors in units above others. Ask management for the renovation rules early and send them to us; we build their requirements into the scope and schedule so the work is not stopped halfway.

Can you tile over old tile or over terrazzo?

Sometimes. Tiling over existing tile or terrazzo saves demolition but raises the floor, which affects doors, thresholds and transitions to other rooms, and it only works if the old surface is flat and firmly attached. In many older homes the terrazzo underneath is worth a look before deciding. We review your photos and tell you whether covering, removing or keeping the old floor makes more sense.

How long will my tile project take?

It depends on scope more than on square footage. Regrouting or a backsplash is usually a matter of days. Full floors and shower rebuilds take longer, because demolition, leveling, waterproofing, setting and grouting happen in stages and need time to cure. Special-order tile, condo approvals and anything found under the old floor can also shift the timeline. Your written schedule spells out the order of work.

Do you come out to measure before giving an estimate?

Estimates are based on the photos and measurements you send, which is usually enough for a clear price. Take a wide picture of the space, close-ups of any damage, and the length and width of each area. If something cannot be judged from photos, such as a floor that may sit on a damaged subfloor, we tell you, and a paid site visit can be arranged.

How do you handle cleanup?

Demolition debris is bagged and hauled away as it is created, not left in the yard or a hallway. We protect floors along the path in and out, cover nearby furniture, and vacuum at the end of each workday. When grouting is done we remove the haze from the tile surface and leave the area wiped down and ready to use once the materials have cured.
