Gold Hands offers tile installation in Miami Shores, FL: floors, shower walls and pans, backsplashes and accent walls in porcelain, ceramic or natural stone, plus regrouting and repair of cracked or loose tiles. Every job is priced per project. Send photos and rough measurements by phone or WhatsApp and we return a free estimate, with no visit needed to get a number.
Tile work in Miami Shores is often a repair before it is a project. A few tiles pop loose near a sliding door, grout cracks along a hallway, or a backsplash tile breaks when an outlet is replaced. Sometimes matching tile is still available; often it is not, and the conversation turns to replacing a defined area cleanly, ending at a doorway or a natural break, instead of patching with a tile that does not match.
Send us what you have before anyone comes out. A text or WhatsApp to (786) 788-8714 with photos of the damaged spot, a wider view of the room, and a picture of any spare tile left in the garage helps us price it honestly. Tell us whether the area gets wet and whether the floor sounds hollow when you tap it. We reply in Spanish or English, your choice.

Working with terrazzo, plaster and original mortar beds
The 33138 corridor along Biscayne Boulevard is mostly older single-family homes — 1920s-to-1940s Mediterranean and Art Deco houses in Morningside, Belle Meade and Shorecrest, and the established blocks of Miami Shores.
Older houses in Miami Shores, especially around Morningside, Belle Meade, Shorecrest and El Portal, often hide terrazzo under carpet or a later layer of tile. Before tearing anything out, it is worth checking: terrazzo in good condition can sometimes be restored by a terrazzo specialist instead of covered, and tiling over it takes specific prep. Send us a photo of a closet corner or a lifted edge where the original floor may show, and we tell you what we think is underneath.
Original bathrooms in these houses were often built with a thick mortar bed behind the wall tile and under the floor. That construction is solid but heavy, and removing it reveals what the walls are really made of: plaster on lath, concrete block or old framing. We plan for the extra demolition and haul-away it creates, and we rebuild the walls with backer board and a waterproofing membrane before retiling.
What is covered, from prep to grout
Here is the work we take on, from a single replaced tile to a full floor or shower, in porcelain, ceramic and natural stone.
- Kitchen and bar backsplashes, with clean cutouts around outlets and window trim
- Bathroom wall tile, tub surrounds and wainscot-height accent walls
- Grout removal and regrouting, with mildew-resistant or epoxy grout options
- Replacement of cracked, loose or hollow-sounding tiles, matched where the tile is still available
- Silicone caulk at changes of plane: tub edges, inside corners and countertop joints
- Transitions and thresholds where tile meets wood, carpet or another floor
- Tile baseboards, step edges and ledges finished with trim profiles
- Haul-away of demolition debris and a broom-clean, wiped-down finish

Coastal humidity, salt air and tile
Near the water in Miami Shores, humidity and salt air affect tile work more than people expect. Grout in showers and on patios takes on moisture and grows mildew quickly when ventilation is poor. We suggest mildew-resistant or epoxy grout in wet areas and a good silicone at corners and edges, and we remind owners that a working exhaust fan does as much for grout as any product.
Metal trims and transition strips near the coast can corrode, so we lean toward stainless steel, coated aluminum or PVC profiles depending on where they go. For outdoor tile on balconies and patios, we choose porcelain rated for exterior use and confirm the surface drains away from the door, since wind-driven rain is simply part of life on the coast, especially during summer storms.
How a tile project works
- Photos and measurements first: a wide shot, a few close-ups and the length and width of each area are enough to start. We answer with a free estimate priced for the whole project, not by guesswork.
- A written plan: before work starts you get the scope, the tile and trim chosen, the grout color, a start date and the order of work, so you know which rooms are affected and when.
- Permits where required: if the tile job turns into moving a drain, a valve or structural repair, we tell you before quoting. That part goes through our general contractor partner and the Village of Miami Shores building department (or the City of Miami for Upper East Side addresses), separately from the tile.
- Installation: demolition and haul-away, substrate repair and leveling, a membrane in showers and wet areas, a dry layout to place the cuts, then setting, grouting and sealing where the material calls for it.
- Walkthrough and photos: we review every surface with you in good light, fix anything that is not right, leave spare tile labeled by room, and send photos of each stage for your records.
How long a tile job takes
A small job such as regrouting a shower, replacing a handful of cracked tiles or adding a backsplash is usually a matter of days. A full floor across several rooms or a shower rebuilt from the studs takes longer, mostly because each stage needs its own time: demolition, leveling, waterproofing, setting and grouting cannot all happen at once, and materials need to cure between them.

Tile Installation in Miami Shores — questions we get asked
Can you tile over old tile or over terrazzo?
Sometimes. Tiling over existing tile or terrazzo saves demolition but raises the floor, which affects doors, thresholds and transitions to other rooms, and it only works if the old surface is flat and firmly attached. In many older homes the terrazzo underneath is worth a look before deciding. We review your photos and tell you whether covering, removing or keeping the old floor makes more sense.
Can I stay in my home while you replace the tile?
Usually, yes. We work room by room where the layout allows, seal off the work area with plastic and cover vents to limit dust. Demolition is the loud, dusty part and comes first. A freshly set floor cannot be walked on until it cures, so we plan paths through the house with you, and if your only bathroom is being redone we discuss the timing in advance.
Can you regrout my shower instead of replacing the tile?
Often, yes. If the tiles are firmly attached and the wall behind them is dry and solid, we can remove the old grout, regrout and recaulk the corners and tub line, which refreshes the shower without demolition. If tiles sound hollow or the wall gives when pressed, regrouting only hides the problem, and we will tell you that from your photos.
Do you come out to measure before giving an estimate?
Estimates are based on the photos and measurements you send, which is usually enough for a clear price. Take a wide picture of the space, close-ups of any damage, and the length and width of each area. If something cannot be judged from photos, such as a floor that may sit on a damaged subfloor, we tell you, and a paid site visit can be arranged.
Who buys the tile, you or me?
Either way works. Many clients choose tile themselves at a showroom or store, and we tell them how much to order, including extra for cuts and future repairs. Most of the time we supply the setting materials, membranes and grout. The written scope states exactly who provides what, so nothing is missing on the morning installation is supposed to start.
