Hanging a single picture is easy; hanging a gallery wall so it is level, evenly spaced, and at the right eye-line takes more than a hammer and a nail. We hang everything from a single mirror to a full gallery wall, using proper anchors for the weight and wall type so nothing shifts or falls.

Hollywood gives us three different walls in three zip codes, so the quote starts with the wall rather than the picture: plaster over lath in the older bungalows around downtown, concrete block through the Hollywood Hills ranch houses, and concrete structure with framed partitions in the beachfront condos. Give us your zip code and a photograph of the room on (786) 788-8714 and most of that is settled before anyone quotes. The written estimate that follows is free and names each item, the wall behind it, the fixings it needs and the access required — plus, for a beach building, the insurance certificate and the elevator slot we will arrange with management.

Gold Hands hangs across the whole City of Hollywood, and the booking that defines the beach end of the city is a turnover: a short-term rental on the barrier island with a four-hour gap between a check-out and a check-in, and a list of art, mirrors and rods that has to be finished inside it. Inland the pace is domestic rather than commercial, but it is the same work. Whether the wall is plaster in a downtown bungalow, block in Hollywood Hills or a partition in a beach tower decides the method; the clock only decides the order things happen in.

The three Hollywood zip codes are genuinely different buildings. On the barrier island in 33019 it is condo and apartment buildings near the sand plus mid-century and waterfront homes in the Lakes and Harbor Islands sections, all of it living in constant salt air. Central Hollywood in 33020, around downtown and Young Circle, runs to bungalows and ranch homes from the 1920s through the 1950s — plaster or lath walls, original windows, streets full of shade — mixed with mid-rise condos nearer the coast. Inland in 33021, Hollywood Hills is a settled grid of 1950s to 1970s ranch houses in the concrete block of that era, with the larger two-storey houses around Emerald Hills. Same mirror, three different sets of fixings.

Plaster, lath and block: what Hollywood walls will take

Central Hollywood's older houses often still carry plaster over wood lath, and it is the least forgiving surface we work on. It is brittle, the key between plaster and lath can be eighty years old, and a hole started carelessly takes a dinner plate of surface off with it — a repair that costs more than the hanging did. Approached properly, the same wall is excellent: the right bit at the right speed, the fixing landing on lath or on the framing behind rather than in a void, and for anything heavy a cleat spanning the studs so the load runs along a line rather than pulling at two brittle points.

Hollywood Hills is the opposite material and the opposite problem. Those 1950s to 1970s ranch houses are concrete block, usually with drywall on furring over the masonry, so the wall feels like board and is solid an inch behind. Block takes a hammer drill and a masonry anchor sized to the load, and once anchored it is the best wall in the house for a heavy mirror. The mistake people make is assuming a wall is one or the other from the far side of the room. We look, every time, which is why photographs come before prices here.

Beach buildings, salt air and Hollywood's coastal corner

Hollywood Beach is almost entirely condos and apartments, and their rules are consistent: a certificate of insurance to management, a service elevator and loading dock booked for a stated window, and work inside the building's hours. For hanging that elevator booking is the critical piece, because a five-foot mirror does not travel in a passenger car and an unbooked freight lift means your piece standing in a lobby. Give us the building name when you book. Gold Hands is insured, and the paperwork reaches your management before the van does.

Salt is the other constant on the island. Anything hung on a balcony wall, in a Florida room, on a screened porch or on an exterior-facing wall this close to the ocean gets stainless or coated hardware as standard — plain steel here corrodes within a season and then bleeds a rust stain down the wall beneath the picture. The same applies to a mirror in a bathroom that is used hard and vented lightly. On a quote for a beachside home we separate the interior items from the exposed ones so you can see why two apparently identical pieces are priced differently.

Vacation rentals and turnover windows in Hollywood

A large share of 33019 is seasonal or short-term rented, and turnover work is a Hollywood Beach speciality for us. Owners want the art, the mirrors, the shelves and the curtain rods done inside the gap between a check-out and a check-in, with photographs sent when it is finished and billing handled electronically. We schedule inside that window rather than around it, and for recurring units we keep the building's access process and the apartment's details on file so the next booking takes one message instead of ten. A short list dropped in early on a quiet morning can often go up the same day when the building paperwork is already lodged, though that is never something to bank on sight unseen.

Rental units also change what we recommend hanging. Guests knock things; doors to a balcony slam in an onshore breeze; a piece that would be fine in a family home gets a rougher life in a unit that turns over weekly. So in a rental we lean toward fixings with more margin than the weight strictly needs, we secure mirrors rather than leaving them free-hanging on two hooks, and we say plainly when something on the list is too fragile or too heavy to survive in a short-let apartment. That conversation belongs before the install, not after a claim.

Neighborhoods and ZIP codes we cover in Hollywood

Picture & Mirror Hanging in Hollywood — questions we get asked

What will it cost to hang our pictures and mirrors in Hollywood?

We quote it in writing rather than guessing on the phone, and the quote is free. In this city especially the number turns on the wall: ten frames on plaster in a 1940s bungalow off Young Circle, the same ten on block in Hollywood Hills, and the same ten in a beach tower with an elevator to book are three different afternoons. So tell us the zip code, send photographs of the rooms, and say what the largest piece measures — (786) 788-8714 — and everything chargeable appears on one page before you agree to any of it.

Who is actually coming into my Hollywood home?

One of our own techs, and you are told the name in advance of the appointment. The liability certificate is a real document and it goes to a condo management office whenever a building asks for one. In an occupied house our people put protection down, clean up the dust the drilling makes, and leave the room the way they found it apart from the things now on the wall.

My Hollywood Beach building needs a COI and an elevator reservation. Will that delay us?

Rarely by more than a day, and for a hanging job it is worth it. The certificate is lodged with management before the visit and the freight lift and dock slot are reserved in the same conversation, which matters here because large mirrors and oversized frames will not travel in a passenger car. Nearly every tower in 33019 asks for the same three things, so tell us the building at booking and we will tell you its process back.

Can a heavy mirror go over the fireplace in an older Hollywood house?

Yes, and the method depends entirely on what the chimney breast is made of. In a block house it is hammer action and masonry anchors into solid material. In a 1930s or 1940s plaster-and-lath house a cleat bridges the framing so the load spreads across the whole span rather than concentrating on two brittle spots. A multi-piece mirror is set out from one datum in either case, which is the only way the sections finish looking like one mirror. The height is fixed with you first, from where the room is normally used.

I rent in Hollywood. What state will the wall be in at the end of the lease?

For light and medium pieces, better than most tenants expect: that hardware grips firmly and leaves a blemish that vanishes under spackle and a roller, and the quote says which of your items qualify. Weight does not negotiate, though: anything rated for a large mirror has to cut deep, and in a block wall that is permanent. Placements get confirmed with you first and the bit turns afterwards, and anything we would not put on a rented wall is named before the day.

We run a short-term rental on Hollywood Beach. Can you work between guests?

Yes — that is a regular booking for us in 33019. Tell us the check-out and check-in times and the work happens inside the gap, with photographs sent when the last piece is up and billing done electronically so you never have to be on the island. For units you let repeatedly we keep the building's access process and your apartment's details on file. We will also tell you which pieces are worth hanging in a guest unit and which will not survive a season of turnovers.

Can you hang a gallery wall so everything is spaced evenly?

Yes — we lay out the arrangement with paper templates or laser measuring before drilling a single hole, so spacing and alignment are right the first time.

How do you hang a heavy mirror safely?

For anything over about 25-30 lbs, we typically use a French cleat or heavy-duty toggle anchors rather than a single hook, so the weight is distributed and secure.
