Before we come out: boxes, condo ceilings and remotes
Is the ceiling box rated for a fan?
A fan moves and a light does not, so the box has to be marked for fan support (look for "acceptable for fan support" and a weight rating inside the box). A plain light box held by two small screws is not enough. Where the box is not fan-rated we swap it for a fan-rated brace box on the wiring that is already there.
Condo and high-rise ceilings in Miami-Dade and Broward
Many condos have a box cast into a concrete slab, sometimes with a drop ceiling below it. A photo of the open box tells us which bracket and anchors to bring. Buildings usually set contractor hours and elevator bookings, and many ask for a certificate of insurance before the visit. Send us the management contact and we send the COI ahead of time.
Ceiling height and downrods
Most manufacturers want the blades at least 7 feet above the floor. Low ceilings get a flush or hugger mount. High, vaulted or sloped ceilings get a longer downrod or an angled-ceiling kit, which is sized from the ceiling height you send us.
Remotes and wall controls
A remote receiver sits inside the canopy and has to be paired (DIP switches or a pairing button) with its remote or wall control. Many smart wall controls also need a neutral wire in the switch box. If yours has none, we tell you before we start instead of forcing a control that will not work.
What is electrician work, not handyman work
We work on existing circuits and existing boxes. New circuits, new wiring or switch runs to a ceiling that has no box, and panel work need a licensed electrician, and we refer those jobs out instead of taking them on.
To get a written quote, text a photo of the ceiling box (cover off, power off), the fan model and the ceiling height to (786) 788-8714.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can you install a fan where there's only a light fixture now?
Yes, in most cases. We check whether the existing electrical box is rated to support a fan's weight and motion, and upgrade it to a fan-rated brace box if it is not — a quick fix using the wiring already there.
Why does my new fan wobble?
Usually unbalanced blades, a loose mounting bracket, or blades that were not attached evenly. We rebalance and re-torque everything so it runs smooth and quiet at every speed.
Do you install fans on high, vaulted, or angled ceilings?
Yes — we bring extension downrods for high ceilings and angled mounting kits for sloped ceilings common in Florida rooms and lofts.
Is a bigger fan always better for a Miami bedroom?
Not necessarily — oversized fans in small rooms feel like a wind tunnel and undersized ones barely move air. We size the fan to the room's square footage before installing.
Can you add a smart control to my ceiling fan?
Yes — we pair smart wall controls or app-based remotes with most fan models so you can schedule it or control it from your phone.
How long does installation take?
A straightforward swap onto an existing fan-rated box takes about an hour. A light-to-fan conversion with a box upgrade typically takes 1.5-2 hours.
What does ceiling fan installation cost?
Gold Hands bills an $80 service call and $80/hr labor with a 2-hour minimum. The exact total depends on the box, the ceiling height and how many fans there are, and it is quoted in writing before work starts. Call or text (786) 788-8714.
Can you put a fan on a concrete condo ceiling?
Usually yes, when there is an existing box in the slab. We check what the box is fastened to and bring the right bracket and anchors. Send a photo of the open box first, and tell us if your building needs a certificate of insurance before the visit.
Can you install a fan where there is no ceiling box or wiring?
No. Running new wiring, adding a new circuit or a new switch leg is licensed electrician work. We install fans on existing boxes and circuits, and we refer new-wiring jobs to a licensed electrician.
