Gold Hands offers tile installation in Pinecrest, FL — new floors, tub surrounds, walk-in showers with proper waterproofing, kitchen backsplashes and grout work for homes and condos across Miami-Dade County. Pricing is per project, never a guess over the phone: you text or WhatsApp photos and measurements, and we send back a free written estimate based on what we see.

Most tile calls in Pinecrest start with one of three things: a floor that has cracked or started to sound hollow underfoot, a shower whose grout keeps going dark no matter how often it is scrubbed, or a kitchen that needs a backsplash to look finished. The work itself depends on what is underneath. Sound concrete takes new tile well; a soft subfloor, an old mortar bed or failing waterproofing has to be dealt with first, and we tell you which one you have.

To start, text or WhatsApp (786) 788-8714 with a few photos: one wide shot of the whole area, a close-up of any cracks or stained grout, and one of the edges where tile meets the tub, cabinets or door frame. Add a rough length and width, and the tile you like if you have already picked one. We answer in English or Spanish and send back a per-project estimate.

Larger properties, more surfaces to tile

Pinecrest is one of the county's most spacious residential areas: large single-family homes on generous, heavily landscaped lots, from mid-century ranch houses to substantial newer builds.

Guest houses and in-law suites in Pinecrest are often finished more simply than the main home, and owners decide later to bring them up to the same standard. Tile is usually the biggest visible change: replacing a basic floor, building a proper walk-in shower, and adding a backsplash to a small kitchenette. We plan those areas together so the materials and layouts feel related.

Some outbuildings sit on slabs that were poured with less attention to flatness than the main house. Before we commit to large-format tile there, we check the slab and recommend leveling where it is needed, or a smaller tile that follows minor dips more gracefully. You get both options in the estimate, so you can weigh cost against the look you want.

Floors and showers in concrete-block houses

Many bathrooms in Pinecrest houses built in the 1980s and 1990s have a fiberglass tub with a tiled surround on drywall, or a tiled shower on greenboard. Those materials were common at the time but are not waterproof by themselves, and after years of use the board behind the tile is often soft near the bottom. A full retile replaces it with cement or foam board and a membrane.

Townhomes add a few considerations: shared walls, an association in some communities, and upstairs bathrooms that sit over a living room. For upstairs wet areas we pay close attention to waterproofing and to the toilet flange height after the new floor tile goes in, so the toilet seals properly and nothing drips into the ceiling below. We also check the floor height where tile meets the stairs or a hallway carpet.

How we take a tile job from estimate to walkthrough

  1. Estimate from photos: you text or WhatsApp (786) 788-8714 with pictures of the area and rough measurements. We review them and send a free per-project estimate, with prep, waterproofing and tile setting listed separately.
  2. Scope and schedule in writing: once you approve, we confirm the tile, grout color, layout and start date in writing, along with who supplies which materials and what happens if we find damage underneath.
  3. Permits where required: most tile replacement stays on the finish surfaces. If the job turns into moving plumbing or structural work, we tell you before quoting, and that part goes through our general contractor partner and the Village of Pinecrest building department (or Miami-Dade County for unincorporated East Kendall addresses).
  4. The work: we protect floors and furniture, remove the old tile, repair and level the surface, waterproof wet areas, then set tile on a planned layout, grout it, and caulk every change of plane.
  5. Final walkthrough: we walk the finished area with you, check for loose or uneven tiles, clean up, and send a photo report that includes the waterproofing stage before it was covered.

How long a tile job takes

A small job such as regrouting a shower, replacing a handful of cracked tiles or adding a backsplash is usually a matter of days. A full floor across several rooms or a shower rebuilt from the studs takes longer, mostly because each stage needs its own time: demolition, leveling, waterproofing, setting and grouting cannot all happen at once, and materials need to cure between them.

Tile Installation in Pinecrest — questions we get asked

Does my HOA have to approve tile on a porch, patio or pool deck?

Interior tile usually does not go through architectural review, but exterior surfaces visible from the street or from neighbors often do. Many HOAs want to approve the material and color for entries, porches and pool decks before work starts. We give you the tile specifications and photos for the application, register our crew at the gate, and schedule installation once approval is in writing.

Can you tile over old tile or over terrazzo?

Sometimes. Tiling over existing tile or terrazzo saves demolition but raises the floor, which affects doors, thresholds and transitions to other rooms, and it only works if the old surface is flat and firmly attached. In many older homes the terrazzo underneath is worth a look before deciding. We review your photos and tell you whether covering, removing or keeping the old floor makes more sense.

Can you regrout my shower instead of replacing the tile?

Often, yes. If the tiles are firmly attached and the wall behind them is dry and solid, we can remove the old grout, regrout and recaulk the corners and tub line, which refreshes the shower without demolition. If tiles sound hollow or the wall gives when pressed, regrouting only hides the problem, and we will tell you that from your photos.

Which grout holds up in a humid South Florida bathroom?

Humidity is the main reason grout darkens and grows mildew here. In showers we often suggest epoxy or a high-performance grout that resists staining, plus a mildew-resistant silicone at corners and where tile meets the tub. Grout alone cannot solve poor ventilation, though: a working exhaust fan, run during and after showers, does more for grout than any product.

Does hurricane season affect tile installation?

It can. Florida hurricane season runs June 1 through November 30, and storms can close supply houses, delay deliveries or pause work around landfall. We try to have tile and setting materials on hand before a large floor is torn up, so a delay does not leave you living on bare concrete. Exterior tile is scheduled with the weather in mind.
