Gold Hands offers tile installation in Homestead, FL: porcelain and ceramic floors, natural stone, shower surrounds and pans, backsplashes, waterproofing and leveling prep, regrouting and repair. Text or WhatsApp us photos plus the length and width of the area, and we answer with a free per-project estimate. We serve ZIP codes 33177, 33170, 33030 and other ZIP codes and the neighborhoods around them.

A typical tile job in Homestead involves more prep than people expect. Old tile has to come up, the thinset underneath gets ground down, low spots get leveled, and in wet areas a waterproofing membrane goes on before any tile does. That prep is what keeps a floor from cracking and a shower from leaking behind the wall, so we price it openly instead of hiding it inside a single number.

You can get an estimate without waiting for a visit. Send photos and rough measurements to (786) 788-8714 by text or WhatsApp. Useful shots: the full room, the floor at a low angle so we can see any dips, the base of the walls, and anything you suspect is water-damaged. Mention whether it is a house or a condo. Spanish-speaking staff are available for calls and messages.

Retiling post-Andrew houses in Homestead

South Dade around Homestead was hit hard by Hurricane Andrew in 1992; much of the housing was rebuilt to tougher code, and newer subdivisions keep filling in next to farmland toward the Redland.

Many homes in Homestead were rebuilt or newly built after Hurricane Andrew in 1992, under a stricter building code. The concrete-block walls and slabs from that era are generally solid, which is good news for tile. The original interiors, though, are now old enough that floors, showers and backsplashes are due for replacement, and that is most of what we are asked to do in South Dade.

Tile from that period was often set on a thin layer of thinset over the slab, and some of it has started to loosen or sound hollow. When we remove it, we grind down what is left so the new floor starts from a flat, clean surface. We also look for slab cracks and treat them before new tile goes down, rather than tiling straight over them.

Tile beyond the main house

Guest houses and in-law suites in Homestead are often finished more simply than the main home, and owners decide later to bring them up to the same standard. Tile is usually the biggest visible change: replacing a basic floor, building a proper walk-in shower, and adding a backsplash to a small kitchenette. We plan those areas together so the materials and layouts feel related.

Some outbuildings sit on slabs that were poured with less attention to flatness than the main house. Before we commit to large-format tile there, we check the slab and recommend leveling where it is needed, or a smaller tile that follows minor dips more gracefully. You get both options in the estimate, so you can weigh cost against the look you want.

How a tile project works

  1. Free estimate by phone or WhatsApp: send photos, rough dimensions and, if you have picked one, the tile. We price the project as a whole and point out anything in the photos that needs a closer look.
  2. Agreement in writing: the scope, materials, who buys the tile, the layout direction, the schedule and how surprises behind the old tile will be handled are all written down before we start.
  3. Permits where required: ordinary retiling does not move plumbing. If yours turns into relocating plumbing or structural work, we tell you before quoting, and that part goes through our general contractor partner and the City of Homestead or Florida City building department, or Miami-Dade County for unincorporated Goulds, Naranja and Princeton addresses.
  4. Tile work: removal, prep, leveling and waterproofing come first, then setting from a center line so the cuts are balanced. We let materials cure properly between stages instead of rushing to grout.
  5. Final check and report: we walk the job with you, tap-test floors for hollow spots, confirm drains and thresholds, clean up, and send a short photo report of the finished work.

Timing: what makes tile work short or long

Material choice affects the calendar more than people expect. Porcelain and ceramic in common sizes are often in stock locally, while special-order tile, oversized porcelain panels and natural stone can carry real lead times. If you have not picked a tile yet, we can suggest options that are on hand, or plan the start date around a delivery so your floor is not torn up while you wait.

Tile Installation in Homestead — questions we get asked

Can you tile over old tile or over terrazzo?

Sometimes. Tiling over existing tile or terrazzo saves demolition but raises the floor, which affects doors, thresholds and transitions to other rooms, and it only works if the old surface is flat and firmly attached. In many older homes the terrazzo underneath is worth a look before deciding. We review your photos and tell you whether covering, removing or keeping the old floor makes more sense.

Does my HOA have to approve tile on a porch, patio or pool deck?

Interior tile usually does not go through architectural review, but exterior surfaces visible from the street or from neighbors often do. Many HOAs want to approve the material and color for entries, porches and pool decks before work starts. We give you the tile specifications and photos for the application, register our crew at the gate, and schedule installation once approval is in writing.

Can you regrout my shower instead of replacing the tile?

Often, yes. If the tiles are firmly attached and the wall behind them is dry and solid, we can remove the old grout, regrout and recaulk the corners and tub line, which refreshes the shower without demolition. If tiles sound hollow or the wall gives when pressed, regrouting only hides the problem, and we will tell you that from your photos.

Do you speak Spanish?

Yes. Spanish-speaking staff are available by phone, text and WhatsApp, and the estimate, scope and schedule can all be explained in Spanish. Many families we work with mix both languages at home, so feel free to write in whichever is easier. Just send your photos and measurements to (786) 788-8714 and tell us which language you prefer.

What is not included in a tile job?

Tile installation covers prep, waterproofing, setting, grout and repairs. It does not include moving plumbing, electrical changes, glass shower enclosures, cabinet work or countertop fabrication, though we tell you when your project needs one of those. Mold remediation behind walls and asbestos testing of very old flooring are separate specialties as well; if we suspect either, we stop and let you know.
