Gold Hands offers tile installation in Fort Lauderdale, FL: floor tile, shower and bathroom walls, backsplashes, grout removal and regrouting, and repair of hollow or loose tiles. Homes and condos throughout Broward County get a per-project price, worked out for free from the photos and measurements you send us by phone or WhatsApp.
Most tile calls in Fort Lauderdale start with one of three things: a floor that has cracked or started to sound hollow underfoot, a shower whose grout keeps going dark no matter how often it is scrubbed, or a kitchen that needs a backsplash to look finished. The work itself depends on what is underneath. Sound concrete takes new tile well; a soft subfloor, an old mortar bed or failing waterproofing has to be dealt with first, and we tell you which one you have.
To start, text or WhatsApp (786) 788-8714 with a few photos: one wide shot of the whole area, a close-up of any cracks or stained grout, and one of the edges where tile meets the tub, cabinets or door frame. Add a rough length and width, and the tile you like if you have already picked one. We answer in English or Spanish and send back a per-project estimate.

Working with terrazzo, plaster and original mortar beds
Fort Lauderdale swings from downtown and Las Olas condo towers to 1920s-through-1950s houses in Victoria Park and Colee Hammock and canal homes with docks in Coral Ridge.
Older houses in Fort Lauderdale, especially around Victoria Park, Coral Ridge, Colee Hammock and Sailboat Bend, often hide terrazzo under carpet or a later layer of tile. Before tearing anything out, it is worth checking: terrazzo in good condition can sometimes be restored by a terrazzo specialist instead of covered, and tiling over it takes specific prep. Send us a photo of a closet corner or a lifted edge where the original floor may show, and we tell you what we think is underneath.
Original bathrooms in these houses were often built with a thick mortar bed behind the wall tile and under the floor. That construction is solid but heavy, and removing it reveals what the walls are really made of: plaster on lath, concrete block or old framing. We plan for the extra demolition and haul-away it creates, and we rebuild the walls with backer board and a waterproofing membrane before retiling.
The scope of a tile job with Gold Hands
These are the pieces a tile project in Fort Lauderdale usually breaks into; your estimate lists only the ones your space actually needs.
- Floor leveling with self-leveling compound so large-format tile sits flat
- Cement backer board or foam board on shower and tub walls
- Liquid or sheet waterproofing membranes in showers, tub surrounds and other wet areas
- Shower pans, curbs, niches and benches built and waterproofed before tiling
- Porcelain and ceramic floor tile, including wood-look plank and large-format sizes
- Natural stone such as marble and travertine, sealed where the stone calls for it
- Kitchen and bar backsplashes, with clean cutouts around outlets and window trim
- Bathroom wall tile, tub surrounds and wainscot-height accent walls

Tile work in Fort Lauderdale high-rise condos
Large-format porcelain is a popular choice for high-rise living areas in Fort Lauderdale, and it is also unforgiving. Tower slabs are rarely perfectly flat, so we check them with a long straightedge and level low spots before setting. That step is easy to skip and expensive to regret, because an uneven slab leads to lippage, where one tile edge sits higher than the next and catches feet and furniture.
Water shutoffs in towers are often controlled by building maintenance rather than by you, so any work near a toilet or shower valve is coordinated with them in advance. We also plan material deliveries around the association's rules: tile cartons are heavy, and some buildings limit how much can travel in the service elevator at once or which days deliveries are allowed.
From photos to finished tile
- Photos and measurements first: a wide shot, a few close-ups and the length and width of each area are enough to start. We answer with a free estimate priced for the whole project, not by guesswork.
- A written plan: before work starts you get the scope, the tile and trim chosen, the grout color, a start date and the order of work, so you know which rooms are affected and when.
- Permits where required: if the tile job turns into moving a drain, a valve or structural repair, we tell you before quoting. That part goes through our general contractor partner and the City of Fort Lauderdale building department, separately from the tile.
- Installation: demolition and haul-away, substrate repair and leveling, a membrane in showers and wet areas, a dry layout to place the cuts, then setting, grouting and sealing where the material calls for it.
- Walkthrough and photos: we review every surface with you in good light, fix anything that is not right, leave spare tile labeled by room, and send photos of each stage for your records.
What sets the pace of a tile project
Hurricane season, June 1 through November 30, can shift schedules when storms close supply houses or delay deliveries, and it is a good reason to have materials on hand before a big floor is torn out. If the job grows into moving plumbing or structural work, permit review with the local building department adds time of its own, and we give you a realistic picture of that before you commit.

Tile Installation in Fort Lauderdale — questions we get asked
Can you tile over old tile or over terrazzo?
Sometimes. Tiling over existing tile or terrazzo saves demolition but raises the floor, which affects doors, thresholds and transitions to other rooms, and it only works if the old surface is flat and firmly attached. In many older homes the terrazzo underneath is worth a look before deciding. We review your photos and tell you whether covering, removing or keeping the old floor makes more sense.
Does my condo association need to approve tile work?
Many associations require approval before any flooring or bathroom work, along with a certificate of insurance, set working hours and a reserved service elevator. Many also require sound-rated underlayment under new hard floors in units above others. Ask management for the renovation rules early and send them to us; we build their requirements into the scope and schedule so the work is not stopped halfway.
Which grout holds up in a humid South Florida bathroom?
Humidity is the main reason grout darkens and grows mildew here. In showers we often suggest epoxy or a high-performance grout that resists staining, plus a mildew-resistant silicone at corners and where tile meets the tub. Grout alone cannot solve poor ventilation, though: a working exhaust fan, run during and after showers, does more for grout than any product.
Does hurricane season affect tile installation?
It can. Florida hurricane season runs June 1 through November 30, and storms can close supply houses, delay deliveries or pause work around landfall. We try to have tile and setting materials on hand before a large floor is torn up, so a delay does not leave you living on bare concrete. Exterior tile is scheduled with the weather in mind.
Who buys the tile, you or me?
Either way works. Many clients choose tile themselves at a showroom or store, and we tell them how much to order, including extra for cuts and future repairs. Most of the time we supply the setting materials, membranes and grout. The written scope states exactly who provides what, so nothing is missing on the morning installation is supposed to start.
